Spiritual Easter conference ended with an aboundant belessing

An Easter conference, held at the Oromo Evangelical church in Oslo was successfully finalized on March 23, 2008 with a great blessing to the attendants. The conference had been held for three days and the Rev.Gemechis Desta Buba was a guest speaker on the conference from USA.

The Holy Spirit did bring words of revelation filled with power and hope as he exposed the events of our Lord’s crucifixion, death, and resurrection respectively for three days.

The ministers of the church also took part in the service during the conference. The choir of the church and “ the Abdi bori” singers group of the young people led the worship program and presented different songs.

At the end of every service, a prayer was held for general and specific prayer requests. The Saturdays’ prayer was so special in which pastor Gemechis prayed almost for every individual who came to the front. The move of the Holy Spirit was so evident to the extent that many people were falling on the ground under the influence of the power of the HolySpirit.

During the conference, an average of about 100 people attended the service every day. The whole service was professionally recorded and will be available soon on VCD.

Confirmation class attendants graduated

A graduation ceremony was held on March 30, 2008 to three persons who attended a confirmation class for four month. The classes included lessons about basic Christian ministries.

The Oromo evangelical church in Oslo gives such kind of teaching to those who have come to faith anew and those who could not get an opportunity to attend any class that is meant for new believers.

This is the fourth time the confirmation class attendants get confirmed in this church since it was officially established in 2003.

A Great revival meeting held in the Oromo Evangelica
Church in Oslo March 30 to April 01, 2007

We had a wonderful spiritual revival meetings in the last week end.The meeting began on Friday, March 30 night. That day was a night prayer meeting and Mr. Almawu Gari was a speaker. He is one of the known businessmen in Ethiopia and at this time serves as a treasurer for the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus central office. He visited our congregation on his way back from an International conference held in Lund, Sweden.

He is a charismatic preacher who moved the meeting with his prayer and Bible exposition. The first day, March 30, 2007,he preached on the topic ‘The Usual is over’ based on Math. 17:1-13. He exposed the text by focusing on the experiences the three disciples of Jesus received on the mountain. He focused on the point that when they were taken to that mountain they were given the new experience that they would not continue to live in the usual.
The meeting continued on Sunday, April 01, 2007 on the regular Sunday service. The same speaker took that day’s preaching again and spoke on the topic ‘The new dimension in life’ . He took a text from Luke. 5 where Jesus met Peter and his brother. He focused on the point that Peter and Andrew got a new vision of life after they experienced Jesus in their boat. They did not remain catching fish but promoted to a new dimension of life and ministry where they were given a new call of fishing human beings. He challenged the congregation that the call we have received in Christ extends our daily survival life struggles . He emphasized that the immigrant communities specially from the southern churches are here in Europe and America for a special purpose. He said that these people need to realize their higher spiritual call so that they will begin to consider themselves not just as a people wondering to catch fish for their daily survival but as missionaries to proclaim the good news of Christ to their respective community. He strongly underlined that the time has now come that we people from Africa will reciprocate the missionary endeavors that has been invested on us from the West.

The congregation on Worship

After the preaching was over the congregation took long time for prayer and giving. The congregation prayed for the empowering of the Holy Spirit so that the congregants would receive the vision for life and the congregation would raise up with one spirit for the challenge that has come through the teaching of  the word. 24.000.00 Norwegian kroner was gathered from the giving ministry which will be sent to the evangelistic work in Showa, Oromia.
